Volunteers play a crucial and transformative role in shaping the band season for San Luis Obispo High School's band program. Their efforts go far beyond occasional help - they are the backbone of many key aspects that allow the band to thrive both musically and logistically.

Volunteers must complete school clearance paperwork (Levels 1–4; details on these levels can be found on our Getting Started page).
Chaperones (Level 3)
Ride the bus and accompany students to events. Provide snacks, minor first aid, and general support.
Events: TNRs, field shows, band camp, parades, off-site concerts.
No special skills required.
Pit Crew (Level 2)
Help move large pit instruments (e.g. timpani, xylophone) to/from the field.
Events: TNRs, football games, field shows.
Must be able to push heavy items.
Uniforms – Start of Year (No Clearance)
Assist with uniform fittings and hemming.
Uniforms – Marching Season (Level 3)
Help with plumes and basic uniform needs (shoe wipes, socks, hair supplies).
Photographer (Level 2)
Capture event photos for newsletters, the website, and the end-of-year slideshow. Upload to Google Drive.
Events: Football games, field shows, parades, concerts.
Camera or good phone camera required. Sign up per event.
Videographer (Level 2)
Record performances for classroom review. Side-angle shots needed for parades. Upload to Google Drive.
Events: Football games, field shows, parades, concerts.
Camera/phone + tripod required. Sign up per event.
Trailer/U-Haul Driver (Level 2)
Transport equipment to off-site events. Trailer drivers need a truck (no special license required).
Board & Committees (No Clearance; Year-round or seasonal)
